I don't think they're big on angels or demons having relationships with humans at all, but pregnancy would be a bigger problem. [ There are a lot of questions that could be potential issues there, but Mananan isn't that worried about it. Like he said, they're both men. And it's not like he plans to try to drag Shiro into bed with him. Spending time together shouldn't be a regular thing after this, even if he'll be able to reveal himself to Shiro in the future.
It's interesting to watch the way he reacts to seeing what the city looks like. Mananan realizes he's never really considered what kind of reaction might come from seeing this. It's so normal for him and those he's surrounded by that he never thinks about it. ]
Yeah. This is Heaven. [ He rests his shoulder against the wall beside the window, watching Shiro stare out of it with amusement. ]
It's really that amazing? I always thought humans would find it underwhelming.
I’ll… keep that in mind. [As Mananan said, there’s no danger of pregnancy between them. He nods and just focuses on looking out at the city below them. It’s a strange feeling. Does he want to explore this new reality or does he want to let it fade and just pretend it all a dream? Mananan’s made it clear he’s wanted to meet Shiro and despite the Paladin’s duties, just telling the angel not to bother him isn’t something he wants. It can get lonely in space. Having someone reliable to talk to and visit with is a very tempting offer. His human side craves the opportunity. A year of lonely slavery has left more than just physical scars.
Shiro’s attention goes from one area of the city to the next, peering over the buildings and the clouds, the perimeter and the center, of course checking the skies around it to see if there are any flying crafts. When Mananan confirms the question, he gapes at him for a few seconds, then turns back to the window, more awe in his eyes again.] Yeah, it really is amazing…
Underwhelming? No. [Honestly, part of his wonder is that it does look so similar to an Earthling city.] If I didn’t know, I’d think we were still on Earth. [Maybe because he can’t see the details, but still…] I assume everyone has their own angel? Even if the interaction’s not allowed? [Another glance to Mananan.] Often.
[ As much as meeting after this shouldn't be something they do, if Shiro says he wants to, Mananan will oblige. But he's got no plans to force his company on Shiro. He's done enough of that with this meeting and he knows that he'd prefer knowing someone wants him around over pushing himself on them. That goes for anyone, including his own human.
Mananan's left smiling as he glances out of the window as well. ] Mm, I don't think so. I think those who need angels end up with a link, but we aren't assigned to humans anymore. Your teammates, the other paladins? I think all of you ended up connected with angels at some point. But the average human doesn't need us. Technology and science have bumped us and demons out of the lives of most humans.
[ It was something that happened before Mananan was even born, so he only knows about it through history he's learned. Taking a half step closer to Shiro, he nods out of the window, pointing toward a ledge that rises through the clouds, a small indication that there's land hidden in there, despite how soft everything looks. There's a fairly large house on the ledge, still visible from where they are. ]
[He’ll consider it. Mananan’s made a point to say it’s possible and not much trouble will come from it… so long as no one finds out. Latter part’s the issue. He’ll have to think about it. Mostly he wants to make sure the angel won’t get in trouble because of him. He doesn’t like sacrifices made for his sake, so used to being the one doing the sacrificing. But he can’t just tell the guy to leave either. Mananan sounds like he'd really wanted to meet him. Yes, time to think it over.
When he’s not staring down at a Heaven city. The explanation’s a bit strange, but also makes sense when he thinks about it.] You’ve got a point. Humans have come a long way over the past century. I don’t think all of us would not want to meet personal angels or demons. [Well, ignoring the stereotypes for the latter.] I’m glad the other paladins have their own connections… They’re very important to me. [Knowing he had an angel and his friends didn’t wouldn’t have sat well with Shiro.]
Hm? [The paladin looks at the indicated area, not minding Mananan’s proximity. Takes him a second to find the place, but he does quickly and narrows his eyes on the land. And the house that’s there. A black brow quirks upward.] That’s your home? Can we go see it? [And instantly remembers he’s not supposed to be there.] Never mind. Forget I said that.
They have. And with free will, it's not like there's a whole lot angels can do now. But there are cases where we're needed. Like humans disappearing into space to fight a war. [ The paladins are definitely a special case and Mananan's equally glad that the rest have angels as well since he couldn't protect all of them on his own. The only unfortunate part is that they focus on Earth and humans, so any companions they have aren't being watched over in the same way. But Mananan has a hard time thinking that other planets lack some kind of divine presence when Earth has one.
The request to see where he lived is surprising. Just as surprising as the sudden turnaround. Both leave him looking over at Shiro, curious. ] I want to show you, but... [ His gaze angles downward toward Shiro's lack of pants. ]
How about I bring you back another time and show you then? When you're fully dressed. My father lives there and I'd rather avoid him, so we'll just sneak in. My room has a nice view and it's closer to the city and the weather station, so you'll be able to see things easier.
[ Mananan tilts his head slightly. ] Maybe I should save showing you anything until then. You probably don't want to wander around here without pants either.
Yeah. Earth wasn’t ready for something like that… I don’t like what happened to me, but in the end, if gave us the chance to prepare and fight back. [Over a long and arduous sequence of events. Knowing that his friends have their own angels, even if they don’t need them now during their time of peace, definitely eases Shiro’s conscience and acceptance of Mananan’s position in his life. He’s still keeping the question about whether or not alien’s have angels of their own in the back of his mind. But considering the space war comment above, Shiro’s starting to think the angels and demons are native to Earth. An… odd thought, but at the same time, it’s actually fitting. Considering the angel in front of him looks nigh-human in the first place. But more on that later.
Right now, Shiro is a curious person. He’s well-aware of “curiosity can kill the cat” and definitely got his luck in spades for that. But in the end, he can’t help the interest that piques up inside him. Mananan’s expression makes him feel like his own curiosity’s well-founded. The “but”, however, earns a small pout of a frown… at least until the angel points out why.
Shiro glances down at himself and then to the side in embarrassment. Oh right…] That would be best. [It’s a bit of a mutter, but agreement all the same. He pushes the embarrassment down and returns his focus to Mananan.] All right. [So asides from this room, it’s kind of a “stuck” situation. Shiro looks out the window again.] I guess it’s best I go back home then. To at least get some pants on.
Hearing you say that... it makes your position make a lot of sense. You were meant to be a leader. [ It's admirable, really. Mananan's spent a fair amount of time with Shiro off and on thanks to everything he's been through, but it's different to talk to him now. It's interesting and it just further solidifies some of the things he's already thought about him.
The look he gets for his answer almost makes Mananan want to take him even without pants, but he's glad that the reason is understood. He doesn't imagine Shiro would be keen on wandering around without pants while also trying to avoid other people. And it'll give Mananan a little bit of time to ways to make him pass as one of them a little more easily.
With that answer, Mananan turns to Shiro and opens his arms. ] Come on. Normally we have to use the transport area to get to humans, but you guys are a special case. So we can leave from here.
[Shiro offers a small smile at the praise.] Thanks. I hear that a lot. [Even Allura said similar while introducing the Paladins to their Lions. Shiro knows he’s a leader and even though he doesn’t think of himself as something incredibly special, he’s glad to protect those who look up to him. Leading them into battle in the best way so as to make sure they all can get out with no casualties. Shiro finds himself wondering just how much of his life Mananan’s been around to witness…
And yes, the angel’s right in that assumption. Shiro, despite his curiosity, has no desire to skulk around trying to dodge sentries without any pants on. That’s… something he’d do in an extreme case, but not something he’ll willingly do when there’s a choice to do otherwise. He trusts Mananan to know what is safe for him to do, however, so defers to the angel’s suggestions.
He quirks a brow when the angel opens his arms, but then moves over to step into his reach without further hesitation. A teleportation hug? That’s interesting.] Is this something the room does or is it one of your own skills?
[ Mananan smiles in return, but doesn't say anything else about it. He's probably witnessed more than Shiro would like to hear about and he has no intention of bringing it all up again, most of it coming from his captivity. So he leaves it, more than willing to move on to present problems that are easily solved.
Something that's very easily solved once Shiro steps closer. Wrapping his arms around him is just the easiest way to handle moving them from one place to another. He carried Shiro the night before, but it's not really necessary now. And while hand holding can work, it's just less worry with more contact if the other person is just traveling with no ability to transport them as well. ]
Neither. [ He wraps an arm around Shiro then pulls something out of his pocket to show it to him -- a small, glowing blue hexagonal badge. Then he wraps his other arm around Shiro as well, holding on to him, wings opening behind him and spreading wide...
... then they're in Shiro's room in the blink of an eye, Mananan's wings disappearing again as he lets go of him. ] It's a mix of technology and magic.
[Well, maybe not hear about certain things in detail, but he’d be open ears for some talk. Captivity time… yeah, best left unsaid. He’s learned some of what went on during that year and he’s not sure he wants to know more than the scant details he’s already recovered. Still, other moments might be fun to explore. Or embarrassing. Like the obvious human question of “were you there when I showered” or the like.
Shiro instinctively slips an arm around Mananan’s waist when the other man embraces him like that. At least this time around he’s conscious enough to do so. It’s disturbing to think what he might’ve been doing the night before. Did Mananan carry him like some kind of wilting ragdoll, or was it bridal style? Or over the shoulder… The embrace, regardless of why, does the two-part reaction of slight tensing and slight draw. Hugging a stranger isn’t something Shiro does. But after the captivity, there’s a lingering vein of touch starvation he sometimes has to deal with. The longing for human contact.]
Neither?
[Shiro glances down at the sudden reveal of the pocket decide. Instantly he’s curious about it. Not as much a tech wiz as Pidge of Hunk, he’s still interested in the technology. At least until Mananan opens his wings and the human’s quick to shift attention to that. The way they spread behind him, wide and—
…
What just happened?! They’re in his room! Shiro’s mouth drops halfway and he stares around them.] Whoa… That… I’ve never done something like that. [The Lions can go extremely fast, and he’s been through wormholes, but that was… blink.] Technology and magic? Like Haggar… [A witch who used magic and technology together. Long story. Shiro’s not a fan of her, to put it lightly.]
[ He can feel Shiro tense under his touch and it's part of the reason he lets go as easily as he does once they arrive. Mananan can be forward, but he's learned to save that for times when someone seems interested. And, that aside, he knows he shouldn't get more attached to Shiro than he already is. He already recognizes that this isn't going to end quite as easily as bringing him home.
Mananan won't abandon or ignore Shiro if he wants more contact. Especially if the contact involves this level of amazement. It's more amusing than the angel thought it would be and he finds himself offering the glowing badge to him to inspect once they've arrived. ]
I don't think it's classified. The explanation I got was that it helps connect the tether between us. I can feel when you need me because of it, but I would normally need to fly to you. Flying isn't an option to get to you, though, so they fused some kind of detection magic into the ID badge. [ It comes with a shrug afterward as Mananan looks around and moves to drop down on the edge of Shiro's bed, looking up at him. ]
I don't have that kind of magic, so I don't know much more than you do. I just know that it gets me to you or places you've been and that's what matters.
[Shiro’s okay with the close contact. The initial part’s just habit now. Annoying, but unfortunately that’s part of the trauma package. He’s grateful the angel doesn’t draw attention to it by springing away or saying something. Still, the other quiet longing is there as well, seeking the warmth of a gentle touch that doesn’t turn into a harsh grip or claws on his skin. And beyond all that, the marvel at what just occurred definitely pushes all the rest away.
When Mananan offers him the badge, Shiro picks it up with a mixture of interest and care. He’s handled strange things before and knows not to take them without attention. Turning the glowing item over a few times, Shiro eyes it, looking for any details that might explain it. Or at least just pique his interest more. Gray eyes flick up to the other man.] The tether between us…
So detection magic and an ID badge. [Now he’s looking to see if there’s information or something about Mananan on the badge or if it’s something about himself. There’s a sigh as the angel sits down on the edge of his bed and he nods at the man’s admission of his limited knowledge.] This would be really handy.
[He offers a small smile when Mananan mentions being able to feel when he needed him. Then moves to take a seat beside his angel.] What constitutes me “needing” you? [He understands the war and captivity had their reasons, but now in this time of peace, when would he need his angel? Asides from being drunk and losing his pants. Definitely not the ordinary for Shiro at all.]
[ The badge is fairly simple, a glowing blue hexagon with little else to it. It's light and clipped to the end of a lanyard, usually meant to be worn around the neck. Mananan tends to keep his in his pocket unless otherwise required, so he tends to take it out as needed. Despite the simplicity, it would get Shiro around a lot of place in the building they just left, serving as an ID, keycard, and more, in the case of his own.
He watches as Shiro looks at it, letting out a soft laugh. ] It is really handy. I get the feeling you guys won't be far behind on this kind of technology, though.
[ Mananan considers pointing out that Shiro has access to pants now, but he doesn't bother to say it as he's joined. It's not like it's a big deal after he's seen him in this state this long now. A few more minutes won't hurt.
It leaves him to focus on the question instead, tilting his head a little. ] It's usually triggered by negative emotions, but... you didn't know I existed before. [ He goes quiet for a few moments, thoughtful. ] If you need or want me, just call out for me or send me a text. I think it should work from here and you have my number now. I'll show up, even if you just want some company while you fall asleep.
[Shiro turns the item over in his hand a few more times, noticing the lanyard dangling from it. He can’t recall Mananan wearing it like a necklace, so he obviously keeps it in his pocket or something. (He’d missed seeing the guy pull it out the first time, too busy distracted by the view out the window earlier.) Shiro would be interested to see where in the building they could go, but… clothing first.]
Really? [He looks back at the item again before giving a thoughtful sound and then handing it back to the angel.] We’re advancing, but I don’t know about personal teleportation. We’re only able to do wormhole travel thanks to the Alteans. [Reaching the planet Pluto had been a historical feat just by rocket fuel two years ago.]
[And yes, he does have access to his clothes, but… there’s a conversation happening and he’s going to need a shower before he pulls something clean on. He can’t remember where Mananan picked him up last night anyways, so… Shiro rests his elbows on his knees and his chin on his laced fingers while the angel answers him.] That’s frustrating, knowing you’re only called when I’m in a bad spot. [With this peaceful time, that’s not going to be frequent at all. Still… the other answer earns a small hum again.] I’ll probably text you.
[Standing in his room or somewhere and calling out the angel’s name is… not something he sees himself doing. Despite all the times he’s shouted “Form Voltron!” to his team. The mention of company, however, makes him smile, a soft and grateful thing.] Thank you. You… You’re welcome to stay the night tonight if you want.
Mm. I think having access to some of the things you all have access to now will help. It might take a little while longer, but I think it'll happen. Humans caught up to Heaven's level of technology pretty quickly, all things considered. [ Of course, living forever can kind of skew the way someone thinks about time. A human lifetime is pretty small in comparison to a lot of things, but Mananan doesn't really stop to consider that.
He accepts his badge and slips it into his pocket, assuming he won't need it too quickly. ] It is, but that's why I haven't had to follow you around constantly, so it's been good for your privacy, at least. [ The thought of receiving texts from Shiro makes Mananan brighten up a bit, though he knows that he's already going too far.
And when he hears the offer, he almost immediately opens his mouth to accept, barely stopping himself as he considers Shiro. ] Would you like me to stay the night? I'd be happy to, but I don't want you to think that you have to have me around just because I'm your angel.
We’re at Heaven’s level of technology? [Shiro stares at the other man for a few seconds. Humans only barely caught up enough to defend against Galra technology, and that was with Voltron and three years of work! If they were already reaching Heaven’s technology… Does that mean some alien species have technology stronger than Heaven? … Then again, considering Mananan’s said angels and demons, Heaven and Hell by proxy, are part of Earth rather than a universal thing, it makes sense… It’s still hard to get his head around.] That’s…I didn’t know we were that far along.
[Returning the badge is simple enough, though he knows two of his fellow Paladins would’ve been tinkering and exploring with it for days on end had they had the opportunity.] That’s true. [Answered some of his questions about his privacy. But when Shiro sees Mananan bright like that, even if it’s just a bit, he feels a little lighter himself. Finds himself wondering again just how long Mananan’s been wanting—and unable—to meet the person he’s supposed to be caring for. It’s a little sad to think about. Knowing a text from him is enough to make the angel happy encourages Shiro to make it a habit.
He doesn’t balk at Mananan’s hesitancy about accepting the invite. After all the man’s said, it’d be strange if he just agreed. Shiro nods.] Yeah. You’ve waited so long. I’d like to spend more time with you. [Some of it’s because the man’s angel. Some of it’s because Shiro does enjoy (sometimes needs) the comfort of another caring person. He rests his hand on Mananan’s shoulder.] I won’t think that way about you. It’ll be nice to have someone regularly with me.
For the most part. There are some differences and some things have to do with magic, but humans almost match us in terms of technology. [ His hand dips into his pocket again and he pulls out something different this time -- what almost looks like a tiny, metal stick. It remains in his hand as he takes in what Shiro says and the comforting hand on his shoulder. ]
I'm glad. I want to spend more time with you, too. [ After a moment, he lifts a hand and rests it over Shiro's on his shoulder, giving it a small squeeze. ] I'll be with you whenever you want me. But you should know that staying the night means I'm going to sleep next to you.
[ A smile follows as he pulls Shiro's hand down and presses the small, almost lollipop stick-like piece of metal into his palm. ]
My phone opens from this. [ And while he could just leave Shiro to try to get it open himself, he knows it's easier to just show him. While it's in his palm, Mananan slides his thumb down along it. There's no sound as a glowing blue screen materializes from it, the device able to float in front of them or be held. But once the screen is open, Mananan leaves it in Shiro's possession to let him play around with it, the home screen looking like a fairly normal interface, though it's pretty bare. ]
That’s… incredible. We had nothing against some of the more advanced alien species out there. Some are still way more advanced than us. [Mixing magic and technology definitely has its advantages and probably would put Heaven and Hell closer to Galra and other higher species. But… Now that peace is here and technology is being shared between species, who knows. Shiro’s attention falls to the new piece of technology presented to him. A metal stick… like a needle.]
Glad to hear it. [Shiro likes being in agreement with the people he’s deciding with. Team member mentality. And this is a very close team right here. He can’t help a small smile when Mananan touches his shoulder as well to return the gesture, the squeeze earning one of the same in answer. Though a slight brow arch and faint heat on his face come from the “warning” his angel gives him.
Whoa. Forward? Accommodating? Friendly? Awkward. Maybe a little of both. But instead of asking “why” to that comment, Shiro just--] That’s okay. [And he’s… pretty much fine with that. He’s slept alone and with others in the past. Most of the time for good or out of necessity. Captivity had introduced some for bad and by force, but he tries not to let that leak into his new relationship with his angel.
Their hands descent and Shito can put the awkward behind him in exchange for the needle-looking stick in his palm. ] Your phone? [Before he’s got the words out of his mouth, the angel’s moving his thumb and a hologram like panel appears. Shiro gazes at it in momentary surprise and awe before interest appears on his face. He lifts the device, inspects the screen, waves a finger through it.]
This is incredible. It reminds me of the holopanels the Alteans and Galra use, but this one is portable rather than attached to a ship or facility. [There were plenty of handheld devices out there, but the tiny scale of this contrasting with the floating screen is amazing!] I take it Heaven and Hell aren’t letting humans access to this kind of technology? For now?
Some are way more advanced than us, too, I'm sure. I'm just a normal angel, so I don't know half of what the archangels and other higher ups know. If they keep track of alien species, we never hear about it. But that might make it easier for us to keep our focus on humans and their creations instead. [ Mananan can't really say if that's really the case. His speculation is as good as Shiro's when it comes to things like this.
He's a little surprised by the acceptance of his news that they'll be sleeping together, but he decides not to press it. It's just sleep. There isn't much reason for Shiro to be too concerned anyway. And he obviously isn't too concerned, given the way he moves on to the tech so easily.
Mananan never thinks about the things he uses, so it's fun to show them to someone who isn't used to them. He smiles as he nods, letting Shiro do what he wants while he watches, leaning back on his hands. ]
We use them for everything in Heaven. Television, computers, tablets, phones. Some are fixed in locations, some are portable. That screen can get a little bigger, if you want. [ He lets out a soft hum as he thinks about that question, shrugging in the end. ] Humans tend to develop on their own, but God sends down inspiration. I guess when they're close enough, inspiration for this kind of thing will end up sent down, too.
[Mentioning hierarchy levels earns a small concentrated look from the Paladin. The rest of it kind of settles like a border around his understanding.] That… seems a little more in line with what I was imagining. [At least it kind of puts things in perspective. Ultimately, there’s no way he can fathom what goes on up there and trying to get his mind around it won’t do much to help. So he lets the topic go with that and focuses on the here and now. What he can grasp rather than speculate.
Shiro notices Mananan’s slight surprise at his acceptance to sleeping together, but doesn’t comment on it. It’s fine for them to sleep together. He’d give his bed to Mananan before he let the man sleep on the couch or something. Which would probably get them trying to out-polite each other. Amusingly enough. Sleeping arrangements settled, back to the new technology.]
Really? [Shiro glances up to the angel again, then back down to the holoscreen.] So they’re everywhere in Heaven… That must look interesting. Some of the alien technology I’ve seen uses them for screens, but even some of those are still fixed on certain physical mediums. [Mostly glass.] This is more advanced. [Mentioning the screen’s abilities, Shiro lifts the device to look “under” the screen, then starts to fiddle with the ‘stick’ to see if he can figure out how to increase the screen’s size. Also touches the screen itself to see if it’ll respond that way. Aka: playing with a new toy.]
Inspiration comes from above. I suppose that’s just as acceptable as it coming from within. [He understands inspiration showing up, but not having the tools or intelligence to make it reality.] Dreams and imagination. A long time ago, it’d be unthinkable outside of fantasy to fly in the sky. Now look at us.
Really. [ Mananan easily lets the conversation settle into the technology side of things, knowing it's probably the most interesting side anyway. And he's admittedly more entertained by watching Shiro play around with the device than he is by talking about the hierarchy in Heaven. ]
You should see the ones in the main meeting area of the building we were in. [ He watches Shiro learn to work the screen, which expands when he tries to touch it, the stick not doing much for him. Smiling, Mananan reaches over and pulls his hand back again, showing him that simply swiping the air in front of the screen will bring him to other things, a bit like apps. Email, texting, an internet browser, and other things can be found in the icons. ]
It technically comes from both. Above and within. I don't think just gifting humans with inspiration alone is enough to get things accomplished. I mean, most of you don't need us anymore. Humans have come a long way on their own inspiration.
[ It's not like God wanted to inspire angels right out of their lives, he's sure. But things are good as they are now. And he has more important things to consider. ] I'm going to take you on a tour when we go back. I just have to figure out how to make you look less obviously human.
[Shiro nods in response. He’s sure there are more intricacies behind the scenes that, while humanly-curious about, militaristically knows it’d be best not to go diving into them. Heaven and Hell have their own things, just like Earth and… the human realm? Is that what to call it? He’s not sure, but it sounds good enough in his head. Enough that he’s content to fiddle with the device in his hands.]
Oh yeah? [The same interest once again piques his voice as he looks at the angel.] They’re bigger, more powerful, both? [Or potentially even smaller and more portable, being easier that way. Back to the screen. The expansion when he touches it intrigues him and he pokes around at the screen a few more times before Mananan reaches over to give him a hands-on demonstration. Soon enough, he’s following suit, swiping the air—the screen—and grinning like a kid when the displays change.] It’s just like the Castle of Lions’ control bridge display. Only portable!
[He’s jumping through the apps easily, looking at the email (but not accessing it since that’s private), and then going to the net and other tools just as a cursory glance at the technology. The icons look amusingly-familiar to their Earthian counterparts. He can find his way around without a translator.]
Both? That’s… pretty fitting. People can’t just have inspiration. They need the passion to do what could be done and the knowledge to know what shouldn’t. [Shiro nods again at the mention of humanity’s progress.] We’ve had help in that area lately. The war’s caused a lot of worlds throughout the galaxy to unite. Technology and knowledge’s shared. Humans adapt quickly; that’s for sure.
[Hopefully humanity would never outgrow the need or believe in angels and demons, as far as Shiro’s concerned. Even now, though he’s given little thought to it before, learning he has his own angel is a very surprising, but welcome revelation. Shiro glances to Mananan again.] A tour? That sounds fun. [The quirks a brow in confusion.] You look just like a human, minus the wings. Why would I need to look any different? [Asides from obviously having a mechanical, alien-tech prosthetic right arm…]
Definitely bigger, but they might be more powerful, too. I don’t use them, so I’m not sure. They’re usually used by… I guess you could call them managers. The higher ups in some departments. [ He grins to himself as he watches Shiro play with the screen, liking that he’s enjoying it as much as he is. Part of him would like to keep showing him things to continue earning that reaction, but he knows that’ll have to wait until they can manage the mentioned tour.
For now, he settles on watching and nodding at Shiro’s point about the displays being similar. ] It is. With technology being shared now, you’ll probably have one of your own sooner than you think.
[ He tilts his head at the question, glancing at Shiro’s prosthetic arm first. That seems obvious enough, but he follows it by lifting a hand and cupping his cheek for a second, thumb briefly brushing against the scar below his eyes. ]
If you died today and ended up in Heaven as an angel, you’d have your arm back and you wouldn’t have any scars. So, right now, anyone who saw you would immediately be able to pick you out as human. [ Mananan pulls his hand back and smiles. ] I think you’d draw a lot of attention. Some angels and demons would be just as curious about you as you are about us.
That makes sense. The screens on the bridge of a ship are usually bigger than the displays at the personal stations. [It’s a mixture of hierarchy and unity in regards to communicating information. At least that’s how he sees it. Another sweep and he gets a new application open: a calculator. Mostly because he wants something simple to go exploring the actual poking through the air. Entering numbers, doing equations, eventually grinning again because it’s so amazing to just move his finger through the air and have the data follow as if he hit a physical key. Even though he’s dealt with such before, the handheld aspect still gets him.
Shiro hums at the prediction.] You’re probably right. The Coalition brought more aid than he originally thought. Technology is going to increase very quickly.
[As for the question about his appearance… and the answer, the Paladin frowns a little. Obvious answer is obvious. But a second later, there’s a hand on his face, cupping his cheek, and his gray eyes widen in slight surprise as Mananan rubs his thumb across his scar. That’s… no one’s ever touched him like that before. It feels strange… He can’t tell if he likes it or not. But the real answer is a logical brick to the head and he mentally facepalms for even asking such a thing.]
Of course. [Just ignore that momentary embarrassment, please. He tries not to think about such a thing. To have his arm back, his scars erased, probably his hair back to being completely black… all the pains and struggles his body’s endured through the years… gone. Tsk, now he’s thinking about it. Shiro pushes the thoughts away. There are still things he has to do, things he needs to be alive for.] They’d be curious about me? Don’t you all know all about us? Even if you’re not as involved anymore, you still… um… have data from the past…
[And trailing off because, as Mananan’s said, Heaven and Hell have largely left humanity alone for decades. They’d definitely be curious to see how humanity has gotten along. Especially since there isn’t as much contact anymore.] Never mind. You’re right. [He offers his angel a small, sheepish smile.] I take it you wouldn’t want a bunch of your colleagues swarming your human.
[ It's still cute, watching Shiro grin over something as simple as typing into the calculator. It makes Mananan glad that he got to show something like this to him before human technology has reached the same point. It's why he's looking forward to figuring out a way to bring Shiro home with him and really show him around, too. He's eager to see the kind of reactions he has to things like the weather station and the housing districts and the inner workings of the Roman Company itself, where they house humanity's creations and care for them.
But that's when he figures out a way to help him pass as an angel for a few hours.
Right now, he focuses on his human and lets out a soft laugh at the assumption that they wouldn't be curious about a living human suddenly wandering around Heaven. ]
I definitely wouldn't want that. You might find another angel you prefer over me. [ He definitely would, is what Mananan thinks. There are a lot of angels who are just... better than he is. And if Shiro was given a choice, he doesn't see himself ranking very high compared to some others.
But he keeps that to himself, smiling and letting the comment he makes roll along as if he might just be teasing. ] You know, you never put pants on.

Date: 2019-05-05 11:25 pm (UTC)It's interesting to watch the way he reacts to seeing what the city looks like.

Date: 2019-05-06 02:27 am (UTC)Shiro’s attention goes from one area of the city to the next, peering over the buildings and the clouds, the perimeter and the center, of course checking the skies around it to see if there are any flying crafts.

Date: 2019-05-06 03:20 am (UTC)Mananan's left smiling as he glances out of the window as well.
I grew up there.

Date: 2019-05-06 04:23 am (UTC)When he’s not staring down at a Heaven city.

Date: 2019-05-06 04:39 am (UTC)The request to see where he lived is surprising.

Date: 2019-05-07 12:07 am (UTC)Right now, Shiro is a curious person.
To at least get some pants on.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-07 01:19 am (UTC)The look he gets for his answer almost makes Mananan want to take him even without pants, but he's glad that the reason is understood.
So we can leave from here.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-07 02:07 am (UTC)And yes, the angel’s right in that assumption.
That’s interesting.] Is this something the room does or is it one of your own skills?
no subject
Date: 2019-05-07 02:32 am (UTC)Something that's very easily solved once Shiro steps closer.
] It's a mix of technology and magic.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-07 03:39 am (UTC)Shiro instinctively slips an arm around Mananan’s waist when the other man embraces him like that.
I assume that’s classified information.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-07 04:02 am (UTC)Mananan won't abandon or ignore Shiro if he wants more contact.
I just know that it gets me to you or places you've been and that's what matters.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-08 02:33 am (UTC)When Mananan offers him the badge, Shiro picks it up with a mixture of interest and care.
Definitely not the ordinary for Shiro at all.]
no subject
Date: 2019-05-08 02:54 am (UTC)He watches as Shiro looks at it, letting out a soft laugh.
I'll show up, even if you just want some company while you fall asleep.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-08 04:13 am (UTC)Really?

Date: 2019-05-08 04:36 am (UTC)He accepts his badge and slips it into his pocket, assuming he won't need it too quickly.
I'd be happy to, but I don't want you to think that you have to have me around just because I'm your angel.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-08 04:48 am (UTC)[Returning the badge is simple enough, though he knows two of his fellow Paladins would’ve been tinkering and exploring with it for days on end had they had the opportunity.] That’s true.
It’ll be nice to have someone regularly with me.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-09 03:13 am (UTC)I'm glad.

Date: 2019-05-09 04:43 am (UTC)Glad to hear it.
For now?
no subject
Date: 2019-05-09 05:18 am (UTC)He's a little surprised by the acceptance of his news that they'll be sleeping together, but he decides not to press it.
I guess when they're close enough, inspiration for this kind of thing will end up sent down, too.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-10 02:36 am (UTC)Shiro notices Mananan’s slight surprise at his acceptance to sleeping together, but doesn’t comment on it.
Now look at us.
sorry for the delay!
Date: 2019-05-15 06:14 am (UTC)You should see the ones in the main meeting area of the building we were in.
I just have to figure out how to make you look less obviously human.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-16 02:57 pm (UTC)Oh yeah?
[Asides from obviously having a mechanical, alien-tech prosthetic right arm…]
no subject
Date: 2019-05-26 04:31 am (UTC)For now, he settles on watching and nodding at Shiro’s point about the displays being similar.
Some angels and demons would be just as curious about you as you are about us.
no subject
Date: 2019-05-27 01:45 am (UTC)Shiro hums at the prediction.] You’re probably right.
